Replacing Lost or Destroyed Door Hardware Parts

If you stripped, lost, or destroyed installation parts, then click here.

Our solid bronze privacy levers and knobs have a locking button. In case of an emergency, the pin can be unlocked from the outside. Simply slide a needle into the hole of the eschuechtone (bronze plate behind lever or knob) to unlock. Our solid bronze knobs and levers are used primarily on bathrooms, master bedrooms, and guest rooms. This is different than passage levers, which don't lock.

Our bronze privacy levers and knobs are relatively easy to install. This guide elaborates on the paperwork that came in the box.  You’re probably reading this because the paper for your lever or knob didn’t answer all of your questions. Hopefully this page does. If it doesn’t, call us.  We're happy to help.

Step 1

Make sure your active door is cut correctly

Double Doors

If you are installing privacy levers on double doors, make sure that only one door meets these requirements. This depicts the cuts on the active door, i.e., the door with hardware that you actually twist to open. The other door, the inactive door, is non-functional.

Single Door

If you only install this hardware entry set on one door, make sure that the one door you are installing it on has these measurements. Otherwise, the solid bronze door hardware won't fit.

Nearly all US doors come pre-cut like the diagram below. So installing our solid bronze privacy lever should be easy. If your active door hasn't been cut yet, you should hire a carpenter to cut the door to these specifications. Any carpenter could do it. These are the dimensions of almost all US doors. We don't recommend it, but you could cut the door yourself. Learn how by Clicking here.

Step 2

Installing the Bronze Privacy Lever or Knob's Latch

This step shows you how to insert the latch into the 1 inch bore hole.

  • Place the gray plastic position alignment device inside the 2-1/8 inch bore hole. There is an arrow on the device that tells you which way it should be positioned inside the bore hole.
  • Slide the latch into its 1-inch bore hole.
  • Using a screwdriver, sink the 3/4 inch wood screws into the two holes of the hardware that cover the flange of the door.
  • Push the locking nut so that it sticks out on the side of the door that a person would lock. So, if you are installing this bronze privacy knob inside a bathroom, push the locking nut so that it pokes out on the side of the door that will be inside the bathroom. In step 5, you will screw the locking pin into this nut.

Step 3

Preparing the bronze lever or knob's jamb

This diagram shows how to prepare the jamb. If you have only one door, then this needs to be installed in the jamb on the door frame. If this bronze knob or lever is installed on double doors, then this step needs to be applied to the flange of the inactive door.

Here are the steps:

  • Use a screwdriver to screw in the 3/4 inch black wood screws into the strike plate.

Step 4

Install the privacy door lever or knob's hardware

This diagram shows how to install the solid bronze lever or knob. It doesn't matter what side of the door the screws go into -- the inside of the door or the outside.

  • Using a screwdriver, sink the two black 1-1/2-inch machine screws into the left and right hole of the door lever or knob.
  • Use the Allen Wrench to tighten the door knob or lever after installation.

Step 4.Install the passage door lever or knob's outside plates

*With levers, make sure that the door can close before you tighten the screws too much. You may have your handing backwards, meaning that you need to take the lever completely off, swap them, and try again. Call us if that doesn't make sense. Phone number is at the bottom of this page.

Step 5

Install the privacy door lever or knob's hardware

This diagram depicts how the privacy locking pin should be screwed into the door hardware. Use your fingers to screw the pin into the inside door.

Here's an example of what we mean by "inside door." If this knob was going inside of a bathroom, make sure that when the door shuts, the locking pin is on the bathroom-side of the door, not the outside.
